NHKドキュメント72時間　多国籍の学生寮を撮影

I watched a program on NHK’s “Document 72 Hours” that filmed for 72 hours at a dormitory where university students of various nationalities lived.
In that dormitory, there were students who had come to Japan for the first time, students who had graduated from a Japanese language school before entering the dormitory, and so on.
The language shared among the students was mainly English. Students who were not good at English communicated in Japanese, and there seemed to be a division two groups.

From the standpoint of a Japanese language teacher, I wanted to tell you a little bit about what I saw.
I think that the families in your country expect their children to be able to speak Japanese after living in Japan for four years. There are students who wanted to find a job in Japan, but such students absolutely need to be able to speak Japanese. Of course, there are students who find a job only with English. But if you can speak Japanese, you may have more chances.　Recently, job changes are frequent in Japan, but it seems that interviews are more often conducted in Japanese, even for foreigners. Unfortunately, some international students who can speak English graduate without feeling the importance of Japanese classes.
University is a place to study, and there are studies and experiences that can only be had at a Japanese university. I would like them to include the Japanese language in their studies. Please also take the JLPT so that you can add it to your résumé.
Finally, please share your JLPT certificates with your families back home to show them how much your Japanese has improved. It’s a tangible way to demonstrate your growth and dedication.

NHKのドキュメント72時間という番組が　University is a place of learning, and there are unique studies and experiences that can only be gained at a Japanese university.

多国籍の大学生が住む寮を　72時間に渡って撮影した番組を見ました。その寮では、初めて日本に来た生徒や　日本語学校を卒業して日本語を学習してから入学した生徒など　色々な学生が集まっていました。そこでは　学生同士の共有の言語が主に英語でした。英語が苦手な生徒は　日本語でコミュニケーションをとっていて　二つに分かれているようでした。

私は、日本語教師の立場から　見終わって　ちょっとお話ししたくなりました。

それは、国のご家族は　四年間も日本に住んでいたら日本語ができると期待していると思います。日本で就職したいという学生もいましたが　そんな生徒は　絶対に日本語が必要です。もちろん　英語だけで就職を決める学生もいます。でも　日本語ができれば　もっとチャンスをつかめるかもしれません。　最近　日本でも　転職が頻繁におこなわれていますが　外国人の方でも面接は日本語で行われることのほうが多いようです。残念なことに　英語が話せると　留学生は、そこまで日本語の授業の大切さを感じないまま卒業を迎える方々もいるようです。

大学は、勉強するところで　日本の大学でしか経験できない勉強や経験もあります。その中に日本語も　しっかり加えてほしいのです。そして履歴書に書けるように　JLPTも受験して　履歴書に加えてください。
